Every U.S. business is required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The ADA protects people with mobility impairments that substantially limit walking, standing, or other major life activities. This includes impairments that may or may not be obvious.

All businesses and events open to the public must comply with the ADA. There is no “grandfather clause” and no exemption for older buildings.

Submitting a claim may require verification of your impairment. Only legitimate claims from those with substantial mobility limitations are eligible for assistance.

How It Works

Equal Access Partners will guide you through the claim process from start to finish in a few simple steps:

  1. Join A4EA for Free – Membership in the Association for Equal Access is required to submit claims and provides access to support.

  2. Document the Barrier – Take photos and summarize your experiences.

  3. Submit Your Claim – Send your documentation to Equal Access Partners. If your claim qualifies, we will prepare a standardized claim file and draft a detailed report linking the barriers you encountered to the relevant ADA code requirements.

  4. Attorney Negotiation – Your file is forwarded to a prequalified attorney who negotiates with the business on your behalf.

  5. Barrier Remediation and Compensation – Businesses are usually persuaded to remediate barriers and pay financial restitution.**

Your first claim is processed for free, with no upfront costs. Attorney fees are only applied if your claim results in a settlement, which can take as little as four weeks.

**In past ADA Title III barrier‑access cases, many claimants have received settlements in the low‑to‑mid five‑figure range, based on publicly reported and historical data. Settlement amounts and other outcomes vary depending on the nature of the violation and are not guaranteed.
